GREEN JOBS ON THE WEB
Searching for Green Jobs on the Internet
When searching for a green job on the web, it's easy to get a little lost. Any number of promotional web sites are already outdated and well passed their advertised event. For example, the 2009 Green Jobs Expo in Washington D.C., concluded in early February, and yet when you Google (tm) Green Jobs Conferences, you'll still come across that site. The sister event, "Good Jobs, Green Jobs National Conference" which featured an impressive number of government officials that came to speak, and was free to the public, was held during that same week in February.
For the rest of us around the country that didn't happen to be in the nation's capitol for those dates, there's the aptly titled GreenJobs.com (tm). It's not exactly a cornucopia of green jobs, but it is current and it does boast hundreds of jobs.
Another site, SustainableBusiness.com (tm) has a bit more to look at; sporting over three hundred new jobs posted every couple of months. Another hundred and fifty or so green jobs can be found at GreenBiz.com (tm). This site has the jobs listed in a handy "at-a-glance" format and the jobs are relatively current.
The best way to approach one's Internet green job search may well be to use key words "Green", "Renewable" "Sustainable", "Eco", "Wind Turbine", "Solar", "Photo Voltaic" "Geo Thermal", etc., along with the all important anchor key words: "Company", "Corp." and "Inc." to source the names of companies that will be good targets for your resume.
Common job search advice, as always, puts forth the idea that one should identify and then research specific companies that one might apply to, regardless of whether or not those companies are currently hiring. When one's research turns up a company that excites the imagination, there is greater enthusiasm going in and this never hurts one's chances at the interview.
