South Africa's Roundabout Outdoor, parent company of PlayPumps® International, is a for profit company that produces and distributes an innovative water wheel pump. The pump, when used like a merry-go-round by village kids, pumps clean water from up to 300 feet below the surface to an above ground tank.

These patented PlayPumps® can make a real difference in the level of access to clean water in rural villages. People that otherwise are forced to use fetid and contaminated water from old shallow wells, are able to get water from a centrally located spigot fed from the PlayPump®'s tank.

Currently the PlayPumps® can be found in countries like Zambia, Mozambique, Swaziland as well as in South Africa. Among the partners that PlayPumps® International enjoys: The Coca Cola Company, Deutsche Bank, and early days Internet-investment mavericks, The Motley Fool. With many others chipping in.

At the end of 2007 into early 2008, PlayPumps® International water systems made news on PBS' Frontline, NBC Nightly news and National Geographic Weekend Radio.
