DEERE MEETS THE CHALLENGE

If a company wanted to build on its assets in a way that propelled its long-standing brand, grow it's profit margins to new heights and continue this trend toward the future, it might want to seek out and consult with Robert W. Lane of Deere & Co. "Shareholder value added", "operating returns over operating assets" and "expanded market share" are some of the terms that a liaison might use to start the conversation.

Mr. Lane has over-seen the re-invention of Deere & Co. as Chairman and CEO of that company for the last seven plus years. He's seen his program of non-productive asset reduction along with other reforms, turn Deere into a very successful enterprise; even above and beyond its earlier successes. With an MBA from the University of Chicago, Mr. Lane got his start at Deere in the operations of the Worldwide Construction Equipment division.

Now, as an example of the good use Deere's construction equipment is being put to, the Water Authority for the City of San Diego, with a deadline of late 2008, is building a critical emergency water pipeline which will supply water to the city from the San Vicente reservoir and keep the taps flowing in the event of an earthquake or other emergency for up to six months.

The John Deere 225C LC RTS excavator is of just such dimensions that it can be lowered down narrow shafts and fit within the confines of the twelve foot wide tunnel. The equipment manager for the project is overjoyed with his John Deere Excavator. San Diego will be overjoyed, in the event of an emergency, with the water being kept on.

Mr. Lane and his old-yet-carefully-rejuvenated company, Deere & Co., are worth a look if you're interested in potentially joining forces with a truly terrestrial enterprise. For more career info: www.deere.com/en_US/careers
