When to use a career coach. If you've been working for 10+ years and are concerned about how to negotiate the next move in your career, or how to move into an executive or leadership role, we recommend that you locate a good career coach. If you have enjoyed a successful career, but wish to move into another industry sector, we recommend working with a career coach.
Just as any other type of service provider can be costly, so can a career coach. Take the time to find a coach who fits your style and what you wish to accomplish. It is perfectly reasonable to request examples of the coaches success and you may even request references.
These are more difficult, as seasoned executives are not always comfortable sharing that they had a mentor in the background. But, you can easily make sure that the coach has a track record in your industry sector.
Once you have located your coach, listen carefully and be willing to follow their advice. A good career coach can be expensive, but the pay off should be well worth the expense and should position you for the next level in your career.
